Duality
This page I have put together to show the developing collection of Bushra's work. Before the outbreak of war in Syria, Bushra had a great love of art both studying modern artists & creating her own artwork in several mediums Acrylics on Canvas, Glass painting and pouring acrylics on to objects, shapes and canvas.  She also was studying business administration.  Bushra has a good talent and when fluent in Dutch, English. French as well as her mother tongue Arabic I am sure she will make a good teacher too.  The first artwork I have loaded on this page is a theme she is producing of the duality of faces, the feeling of being two persons in one. This is very much how she must be feeling too with her past life in Syria and now her new life in Belgium. She is embracing her new life in Europe with hope and desires to succeed. This is reflected in her Duality work.. you can see the expression in the eyes changes from sadness to one of eager open eyed hope. The complexion is lighter the feel is lighter. I love the colour mix of this piece.  Thanks to the bargain acrylics from Bovilles in Uxbridge though sad the family business closed.  I would have loved to have taken the owner on Bushra's journey of healing & expression through art.
Tribal
This artwork to me seems to have a tribal look and feel about it. The angular faces becoming almost like Masai warrior shields.. The noses particularly on the second from left blue face looking like a sword.   The colours are strong and bold.  It feels as if there is a need to be a warrior in a new life driven by desire to win a new battle for survival and with this a need to be protected. The eyes carry a sadness, a pain of what they have witnessed.. With this a sense of inner disbelief of all that has been seen.  My feeling knowing and seeing uncensored material on the war is a disbelief and overwhelming feeling of how can man so intensely hurt another.

I often get messenger photos and video shares of Bushra at work. It can be in the evening with her daughters busy working with their paints ..But when the girls are asleep she will play soft Arabic music and paint. You really feel each brushstroke is stroking away her pain and helping her to heal and rebuild her life. The colours and studies giving her a new role and meaning to recalibrate to her place of safety and steps towards the future.
Facets
I have entitled this Facets as I can see different aspects of self and a need to take on different views of life and experiences. Different views from others and of others. The eyes still carry sadness and the green hair flow at the right side is thoughtfulness questioning which way to go. The face angled downwards seems to show unsure which way to go... a feeling of insecurity. The eyes looking up almost feels to me as reaching upwards to the Divine for guidance, even pleading for guidance.  I feel as if I could add to the title Facets & Quandary given the meaning of quandary as uncertainty in a difficult situation this seems apt.
Unnamed
I am unable to give this a title as yet but it does make me think of a pop star album cover.. The face is full of colour and vibrancy with neon touches too.. but the hands around the neck feels like a need to find a voice. There is a feeling of so much to say but strangled blocked from saying. The lose cascade of hair gives a sense of freedom a need  to feel free liberated. Maybe that should be the title Liberate the Voice..

Below are more pieces of work with more emphasis on faces and interplay of colours, shapes and angles... still unnamed and I will build on my interpretation but would be wonderful to know what others see too you can email me with interest marjoriebahhaj@gmail.com and you can find me on twitter Marjorie's Yard

Love can turn you upside down
This morning woke to the latest creation of Bushra's artwork...I had glimpses through the week when Leen was skyping me... There is no title yet but as the face is shaped as a love heart I was thinking ..that love can turn you &  your life upside down.  Love changes your prespective on life...this can be for the better or can be a challenge... love lost can truly turn you upside down in the pain of loss.  Look at the self hug is there a message to be kind to yourself, love self not in egotisical way but to heal and care for self. There is such a need to heal inner self and create inner well being.  I love the surround as in this I see the message to surround yourself with beauty and colour that nourishes inner self.  Wow Bushra how you inspired this Sunday with your artwork..
.
New work developing below for February the month of love. Wearing your heart on your sleeve.. there is a duality theme also developing..But the figure behind looks like male love in a loving embrace with his woman... So my first impressions looking forward to the finished piece...yet in a way seems completed now. 10th Feb 2021

Golden Tears
Last night Bushra sent me a video of her working on this study ..I love the way she plays her favourite Syrian music and is a creative chilled out zone... lol while the girls asleep. I have given this piece the title of Golden Tears. There is a sadness and as if trying to hide from the sadness.  If you would like to commission Bushra or buy prints of her work contact me and I can link you to her..  marjoriebahhaj@gmail.com    All funds from purchases go to her for more art materials & art college fees so she can expand on her artistic career. With this rebuild her life to be strong in the world for her family.  You can see more of her work on this page link Bushra's Art Gallery  Also we are waiting for the judging results of some work we submitted to the Royal Academy of Arts for the covid rescheduled RSA Summer Exhibition now to be in September of this year.

A glimpse of new artwork spotted while chatting to Leen. Leen is so proud of her mum's artwork.
