Update..

Update from Family Link Up just got lovely photos in from Boshra in Belgium to show Leen studying... she is learning English and Dutch from the dual language books I have sent lol .. Professor of Linguistics when older one feels bless her.

I have been busy making more warm Arran waistcoats in all sizes for the kids in both Belgium and Turkey.  I know we are getting closer to spring and summer but they will be useful when cold weather returns or just for some body warmth over lighter clothes on a cool day. 

Dante has been busy in Turkey helping his cousin who had to have a kidney operation yesterday.  I have over the last few days been doing my ward rounds in the Turkish hospital on skype. 

Have to say well impressed with the hospital set near mountains with a healing view in itself.  The hospital care good, with much thanks to the doctors and nurses for caring for her for me too! I wish I could have gone to help but thank goodness for skype to help me go from my lap top at home in Hayes. Monday evening it did her good for me to visit on skype as she was feeling anxious pre op.. and yesterday I was able to check in post op, she looked comfortable.  I have a screen capture to evidence my call over skype but I have preserved the dignity of Gade at her request.  The slide I have surrounded with healing colours for her well being recovery. The Turkish health care system has been based on our NHS system so is impressive.

Some parcels arrive in Belgium and another on its way to Turkey.

I am planning to visit the family members in Belgium for my birthday to link up Leens school with the local one here. Leen is doing well with her Dutch learning and so is Boshra... All are trying hard to keep all the languages rich and bountiful for any future work opportunities.  Boshra is keen to develop her art skills and has a huge pull towards glass painting and artwork.  

We need funds for fuel for winter in Turkey and food.  We need funds for educational materials for both the children in Belgium and in Turkey.  We need more art materials for Boshra in Belgium.  She still needs beds for the girls in the apartment too. Funds to purchase from local traders in the host countries is so important - to respect their livelihoods.  But I also need funds to send parcels to them all. 

Can we do this together dear helpers? let me know of ideas such as coffee mornings and sponsored runs or cycles... anything that can help this project - thank you!

Lovely day today Language Books & Knitting

Been a busy day today... I ran out of wool for a multicoloured cardigan I am knitting for Leen so had to nip up to Uxbridge to the wool shop.  Met a lovely Swedish lady on the bus and had a good chin wag on darn Brexit and also talked about my Family Link Up project too... She was so interested.  I had to nip into Bovilles Art supplies shop to laminate some teaching material and it made me feel I wish I had some funds to get all the art materials for Boshra that she needs to build up through art and sale of artwork. 

When I got back home the Dutch English books I had ordered from Amazon arrived. These are to help not only Leen but Boshra and her husband vocabulary build for their settlement in Belgium.

I will scan some pages and make up some slides with Arabic translations too. It is so important to cultivate & continue polyglot skills in Leen and Celine as they grow.. the more languages the better it is for all to understand one another.. Plus it is fun.  These books are helping me too... as I see the story in English I can spot words in Dutch... lol for example as I look at the page on the mother and daughter baking together ... I have learnt the word for drippy = druipend..!

 The Picture Dictionary is useful too.

 I have been knitting up this wacky beautiful multicoloured Twinkle yarn by James C Brett Ltd Lulu Blanche one of my cats has been inspecting the knitting... 

And as you can see below she seems to have given it an happy approval..

Month of Love

I am happily blending my love for knitting with my love for the Family I am befriending.  In the love of knitting I have rediscovered my love for Arran knitting. I used to knit a lot of Arran garments for my own family when I first had my children so full of fond memories.  I have just finished a Gillet (Waistcoat) and thoroughly enjoyed this. The twist of the stitches is brilliant to create an extra layer for warmth.  I have more wool to knit up some smaller ones for the children too. 

I have to post this out to the family members in Turkey as they have been struggling with the cold weather.  Sadly we did not have a response for our call for funds for firewood....My skype call checks and chats reassure me that even though they have had the usual coughs and colds over all they are doing OK. One cousin however has a kidney problem and will need an operation.
