Pouring out art to heal & rebuild

Boshra is reconnecting with herself through her artwork... she is enjoying using the acrylic medium and pouring out patterns plus working on surreal themes. I am finding all her work fascinating.  The pouring artwork I feel drawn into the colours and shapes with this begin to feel and see stories.....

These are the materials she uses but she is asking for some special resin... and when I read up on the techniques she will need varnish too.

I feel it will be good to get her introduced to the art gallery near her apartment and see if she can get to be a member of an art club too.  Her Dutch learning and speaking is developing... plus she speaks some French. She is motivated to rebuild her life to reconnect with her self and for the girls.

I am inspired by the family I befriend with their talents and the motivation to heal and rebuild.  The womenfolk particularly impress me as they are the homemakers and carers for their families but still will find time and make time to learn the host country language and reconnect with their skills and talents.

Updates and need for help please

Been a busy few days with Family Link Up - Boshra's sister is due with her baby in Germany and we have been in contact with the UNHCR legal team here in London for directives on how to get Boshra and girls passports to travel over from Belgium to Germany to visit.  The team have given me useful links and directives but we need to get Leens birth certificate from Turkey... so in a bureaucratic chase about. Dante has been trying to get the relevant documents but struggling to get them released to him as the Uncle.  So I need more liaison with UNHCR... We also need funds for the fees and the travel.  
I have over the last few months been able to help a friend with some teaching assistant work which was helping the project -but this is over now.  I have dwindling funds.  I need to hunt around for more grants that I can apply for... But I would welcome some help with fund raising be it donations or some event you can organise. Do note I am available for some hours but have medical issues too as I am getting older. In fact the family I befriend and help would love to help me and care for me which is lovely of them. There is much respect for the older generation in their Syrian culture and all value and respect helpers too. They never take any help for granted and always looking at ways to return helping hand. Hence in host countries they are desperate to succeed to pay back to the country economy that is giving them safety and caring for them.
The parcel Gift with Love I sent Asma was undelivered earlier in the week but I have been able to track it down and is now ready for collection as the courier could not find the address. I am now in email contact with the courier firm who have been very helpful. With our google maps we have sorted it out. So any other parcels I send to Germany I can jpeg and inform them before delivery and they now know where to find the address. Thank you GLS

Little lady with big journey in her life

Just been looking through my photos and file on Princess Leen..... it is amazing what her 4 years have taken her through.... thankfully in the safety of camps and host countries.... But no matter where she is she is always willing and eager to learn.  I found the photo from the Eleonas Camp school and her love of drawing and sharing with the other kids.... and then this photo on my recent visit to Belgium to have some shared time learning to write and tell the time and expand on her creative learning and languages...I am so so thankful to the teachers and school she is in now... they are so progressive, engaging and respectful of all their children with all given an equal chance to develop to their full potential....Leen's teacher is impressed with Leen.  I hope I can have more time with them in Belgium as I am so impressed with the host country integration projects.... Thank you so much. I would like to get more educational material for Leen and Celine, plus more art materials for Boshra and also address the needs of the other family members in Turkey and Germany.

Paper Dolls arrived in Belgium

Well the Mother & Daughter Paper Dolls seem to be big hit with Leen I knew she would like dressing them up in their international costumes.... Just wish I could be there to play too ....I used to love paper dolls when I was a kid you see... and these are so good as they educate on world countries too. I was told about them on the Migrants & refugees in education  British Council course on FutureLearn  I used to collect international dolls too! I just got the photos through just now on facebook messages...But the book of stickers are like well er er cough well not going in their work books but are now decorating the tv screen...I can see what their logic was as it was sea creatures and mermaids from their Mermaid book.... they were creating an aquarium..! we have just had a skype call....lol we had a laugh but I love this screen capture of the call as says so much hhhh

Gift with love

Gift for Asma, Boshra's sister who is in Germany and due anytime with her baby. With some commission from a loyal registered NYR customer order I have just been to our local Maternity unit Baby Boutique and got a couple of cardigans knit by the WRVS .... and a teddy... the blanket is one that I have crochet with wool left over from knitting for the girls...  The shop at Hillingdon hospital has some lovely baby suits and dresses so will have to nip back when I know whether Asma as a son or daughter.  The purchase today will help our local unit and this is the essence of Family Link Up - linking up other traders and charities to help one another.  I have put some of the NYR White Tea Facial Mist in the parcel as this will be refreshing when Asma is labouring.  I would like to go to her but for now am connecting my love and the love of others for this project to her with this parcel posting today.

Reflection on visit

Lovely being a "grandma" to the Leen and Celine... I feel I am doing this not only out of my love & care for them as a befriender but as a way of reaching out to them for their Grandmas too.... Boshra's mum and Grandma to the girls is in Turkey can only have skype call times.... Grandma on the girls papa side is in a camp in Lebanon... and she too only has skype times.  This is the situation with families now scattered around the world... It is so important to befriend, link up  and help rebuild lives.  You can see Leen and me crocheting.... I had spotted some yarn a shop in the town centre in Belgium, on my recent visit and also bought a crochet hook..... so was showing and teaching her how to crochet. The mat I made is now looking extra good with some mothers day orchids on display... All homely touches to help them settle and truly feel at home where the UNHCR have kindly settled them.  

Love this slide below of Celine, one of our local teachers in her gifts to the children put some nail polish in for some girlie time with mama.... Celine was so funny blowing on the nail polish to get it to dry quickly but touched her face while it was still wet hhhhhh

Been connecting today to check on all.... Asma, (Boshra's sister) in Germany is heavily pregnant now and no sign yet of labour, I would like to get to see for the birth but have some teaching assistant shifts to do to help earn for this project.  I have asked to link up to her Hebamme (midwife) so we can team up to help support her through the birth.   
We have had news in of an Earth tremor in Turkey but Dante says he is fine and did not feel a thing it is far away from where he is.... thank goodness all is ok.
