Missing the Girls

ღ¸╭•⊰
As we near the end of September I am looking back to an amazing time with these lovely girls in Belgium.  Since I came back I have been missing them so much.  We do skype but the time is limited as Boshra is busy with her Art Classes around her Dutch learning, school runs and the girls in ballet.... So Skype times are precious now.... I hope to get back to see them before Christmas and help as I can with fun teaching...
Leen keeps asking about swimming and I know if I had an intensive few days with her in the pool she would be off swimming ...I really enjoyed our trip to the local pool.
I have been feeling frustrated with the fund raising for the Art Materials and been with limited funds myself to send.. But you can read the update on the gofundme how I made up the £30 to £50 and sent this to Boshra - she has shown what she got with this... But she will need more for sure.  I must improve my fund raising need - though I do twitter and facebook along with this blog.  One of the ways to help is through Marjorie's Yard shopping. I have had an order placed by a loyal supporter customer so the commission from this will go to the Art Materials fund mid October.  This will coincidence with the full and proper payment of my state pension as this month been very lean and mean! So I can contribute more too.... But I must also look for the bargain Eurostar seats  so I can visit before Christmas...I am actually feeling part of the community in Belgium.  I am continuing to improve my language skills to help.

I have continued to look for grants and I have meetings and conferences to attend this coming week so pray I can get some good support and maybe a sponsor. Plus in October there is an Art Fair in Kensington that I am booked to attend... So I do keep trying and have to as this project is my life.
The family members in Turkey need continued help too as the situation in Turkey is difficult with growing restrictions on movement and lack of funding for courses and little work opportunities. So lots to do to get lives rebuilt...

Art College started

•⊰Art Materials Fund•⊰
ღ¸╭•⊰
Yesterday Boshra sent me some footage of her first day at the Kunst Academie ann Zee.. (Art College).. She is feeling totally reconnected with herself and enjoyed her class..

The teacher has given her a list of materials she will need to get for the course..... some of the products she can get from a local bargain store called Action... but others will be a more financial outlay....
We are grateful of the donations thus far towards the target I have set in this gofundme.. The target is realistic as there is the additional project of work to submit to the Royal Academy of Arts here in London.

While I was in Oostende I spotted local art gallery and was told she can exhibit pieces of work for free with a 30% commission on sales... So there really is opportunity for Boshra to build her life with artwork.
The gallery owner loved the TriangularFaces piece.... and also could identify with the traumatic time she has been through...
The enrolment from last week when I was with Boshra.

Amazing week in Belgium

Travelling back on the last Eurostar train on Wednesday
Apologises for the break in posting updates...But arrived back late on Wednesday night back home after an amazing productive week in Belgium. Yesterday was so exhausted but happily so as I felt such a sense of achievement. I am proud of the family I help and yea going to say proud of me too as one major thing I am enjoying in all this is not only setting goals and achieving them with the family to help rebuild their lives, not only meeting new and kindly people but my language skills are improving. I have always had a love of languages... It helps to be immersed in the language.. and it sure helps with my Prof of Linguistics friend Leen.... and her sister Celine. We have fun with the languages and mix and match and make cocktail sentences.

Wednesday afternoon before I left Leen had another ballet class with Celine joining in. There was a sale of ballet clothes too.. but the teacher team tell me to wait till the end of month as there will be some second hand bargains to help out.

This class no parents were permitted in.. so Boshra and me sat in the coffee area to wait for the hour class.  I got engaged with a baby one of the mothers was holding... and the most amazing thing happened.. The mother and her friend were Syrian from Aleppo... They too had the desire to tap into all the arts and culture that the community had on offer. So one of her daughters is dancing in the same class as Leen.  Not only mothers making friends but the children too.
There were also Dutch mothers and fathers waiting so if Mohammed has to take Leen to dance school he can make friends with other fathers too. A great way for them to fully integrate.

Celine enjoying fresh made waffles with ice cream after creche.
Local Swimming pool
I was so happy with the first visit to the swimming pool with Leen. I am sorry no photos or footage as difficult alone and could not risk my camera getting wet. Plus I wanted to be totally focused on ensuring the first time was good experience and it was. Oh my was it fun.. the pools are graduated..small with knee high water and some fun play objects.. then a waist high for adults to help get the children used to floating... this was brilliantly done with a multicoloured floating lily pad design..  Leen loved it all... she was giggling at the play pool and the assistant gave her a duck seat to sit in and paddle... But she really impressed me with the water slide giggling at getting face full of water in the splash... but she stood up and said in perfect English, " I have got an idea!"
and she showed me... lol it was to slide down with her head to one side so not to get a face full of water... NOW that is impressive...Bless her logical mind too!
We did have a good time and she managed some swim strokes with my holding her ..but I feel she will be off swimming quickly... wish I could be around to take her on at least a weekly basis... But on the on the way home just a few mins from home she tripped and fell .. so arrived back in tears not giggles... I had to explain to Boshra and Mohammed NOT tears for swim but had fallen.  The next day Boshra was saying she had been full of the tales of the good time she had in the swimming pool and when can she go again... Mohammed asked what it was like for him to take her... as he can swim but Boshra not.

Sunday a cultural Funday

Brilliant afternoon with the local Belgium community putting on a multi-cultural festival. Bouncy castle to face painting for the children. Food, wraps, cakes fruit icecream coffee great for mixing together, dancing too Arabic pop songs and European some songs dual languages. The ice creams were free but good idea you only got one if you randomly picked a question or task in Dutch and answered..love this fun way to get migrants more confident in using the language. LOL I managed to work out my task of giving a secret hand shake..i used my scarf and offered the end to shake..
It was lovely to meet other European family befrienders of Syrian refugees. It makes a huge difference to help rebuild lives, with this become a global family.

There has been a bustle just now before bed with Boshra getting her language school bag ready ...Tomorrow she starts second level Dutch. A busy mama now as she has Dutch Monday; Tuesday Wednesday then Art class Thursday and to do kids school run and ballet for Leen on Saturday.. but she is motivated to succeed.. she will too.
Help me to help her as she needs art materials for college.

Beautiful seasons

 🌿🌳🍂🌿🌳🍂🌿🌳🍂🌿
The Tree book is a magical learning tool. So beautifully illustrated to follow the tree and woodland through the seasons. The poetry is so descriptive for the children to build on expressive vocabulary. There is a fun insight into biology & ecosystem to create curiosity to learn more. I am glad I bought it from Uxbridge Waterstones. Good buy.
We have just come back from the park collecting autumn leaves. Leen has been captivated by tracing round the leave, she could count the 5 points on the leaf and studied the veins pattern. We have learnt our Dutch words too. Herfst = autumn and blad = leaf. Bladeren more than one.

Magic morning at dance class

 🌹🌿💃🎶🥁🎺🎻🎶💃🌿🌹
A magical morning as Leen started dance school. For those following the Family Link Up story you will know from the time I met Leen I could see she had a flare for music and dance. So today was a moment with tears in my eyes full of joy at this magical time. How wonderful the school is only a short walk away from home. The teachers so kind. Leen immediately joined in and saw what moves were being taught. Celine little sister joined in too.. but I think she has more flare for gymnastics & acrobatics lol as was not long before she was swinging from the ballet bar...hhhh
The teachers tell me there is a sale of ballet clothes on wednesday ..so I hope to pick up bargains before I return to Brussels for last eurostar to London.

Fun starts in Belgium....

Well pleased with this Magic Water Colouring book. Leen and me having fun with this. We fill the pen with water and we move it over the page and the pictures appear. We practice counting ...but then more magic happens when it dries the pictures .....disappear again.... so we can use it over and over again..

I spotted this in WH Smith in Uxbridge ...so much fun with vocabulary and counting learning. I love finding fun educational materials... The girls are sparky quick to learn but then that is because its fun..

Fun Skype Teach in ..

The girls had fun over skype yesterday.  Leen, my 4 yrs Princess and Professor of Linguistics was teaching me Arabic with the flashcards I had sent if you remember from previous posts. As Leen learns she teaches me... all the meemie jeemies... I have the basics in Arabic. The letters are brilliantly sound driven. But both Leen & me have to be aware of the magic trick that the letters change shape when joined up as to whether in the beginning, middle and end of the word.  So it is so important to keep flashing the over all word format.  I will be learning more this coming week when I visit them with my bargain Eurostar tickets. We have fun interchanging between Arabic, English and Dutch... with the occasional French too.. The fun we have teaches without confusion but with strengthened understanding.  So from visuals and situations we mix the languages and love finding patterns in the languages.. and fun sounds.  The Skype class fell into lots of fun when we were exploring all the skype visuals hhhhhhh
These are the flashcards I got if you remember see below....
And you can see in my past posts how I put emphasis on fun educational material to meet the multilingual language needs for the family. The girls are very receptive and enjoy learning.. Books for Leen shows from 2016 I have built up resources.. Boshra uses the material to learn and teach too! She is a good mother.  Funds are always put to good use to build up their lives....

Remember we have a call out for Art Materials for Boshra, Yea we have received our first donation today towards the need with thanks to a fellow artist Haydn Dickenson who I met last week at Hyde Park London - read more over on my Cup of Tea, Share & Care blog & meet more of the artists with me Art in the Park
