School Perfomance

Had some adorable footage of Leen performing at the school concert. She really is quite comfortable on stage in front of an audience.  Her mama & papa there and Celine her little sister all proud as indeed I am of her.

I like my updates from school was good to have a copy of the school photo and to see Leen wearing the clothes my daughter had sent her. Truly a Family Link Up.

We have an application in for Dance School and the teachers are keen to accept her. So I am looking forward to her first term there around her other school work.

The local community have lots on offer for the family to engage in and with more fluency in Dutch they should do very well.

We have a heatwave around Europe so they will need extra fruit and fluids to help with this. Celine loves tomatoes she is amazing for a little 2 year old that usually you have to persuade to eat healthy foods. So Celine loves salads. We have some cool clothes so that is good.

An amazing awesome day today...

Wonderful Friday Summer Solstice too! Good energy around.
So so proud of Boshra and Mohammed for graduating on the level 1 Dutch course to help integrate into the community in Belgium.  Been worrying about Mohammed struggling with the language and something so spooky happened. Yesterday I was in York with my daughter Nicola and we visited the York Minster for Refugee Week to light a candle. Of course my prayers for my Family Link Up.

Today I got a wonderful skype call from Boshra with Mohammed AND the Dutch teacher.  The teacher is helping him and he looked radiantly happy. It is I am sure that he feels he is getting his life back on track & under control.  All he needed was the Dutch language to make the  transition into a new life rebuild. So I feel so happy now and I am to meet with the teacher when I am next over to visit in Belgium.

Good that Boshra was able to share some of her artwork with the teachers and other students too. It will be exciting when she starts her art course in September..

Been a wonderful Link Up for Refugee week for sure.  Today I got my membership card to the Anglo-Belgian Society so this feels a good strong link up. Looking forward to my first meeting attendance to meet up with the other members.

Today been at the V&A again for the Refugee week and been networking for Family Link Up.

While I was in York I got a light catcher for the big bay window in the apartment in Belgium for the girls. Leen when I was there the other week was fascinated that the sequins on her shorts where making rainbows on the wall as the sun shone on them... So got this crystal for them to have fun seeing more rainbows around the room as the light get refracted... Fun out of science....

Catching my breath to give you a catch up post to read

Been resting up after my visit to Belgium and recovering from a head cold with the change in weather, rain and colder temperature. In this time been missing Boshra and the girls but reflecting on how much we have done over the week together.

First and foremost I am so proud of Boshra and Mohammed for passing their Dutch test while I was there. But most of all I am so so impressed with Boshra as when we met with a Filipino friend of hers in the market they were chatting in Dutch. I stood back in awe at the observation of Syrian and Filipino communicating in Dutch. I love languages and so it was fascinating to see how heart to heart connections can be made with all languages.  Of course, as I have reported before, the children so readily pick up on languages spoken around them and are exposed to - use them in context and simply do not get muddled. The children also need to learn to write in both Arabic script and Roman script so slowly but surely and with fun I am working with Leen on this.

The write, draw and wipe book I got from Waterstones in Uxbridge has been brilliant for help her with numbers connecting to draw shapes and practice words. The key to this is no matter how many mistakes - there are no mistakes! You can wipe away and keep practising and it is so much fun - we loved this. But little sister is best asleep while we do this as the pen could be all over the wall hhhh and not sure if wipes of walls! :-)

Here is a thank you to Kingshill Hillingdon Age UK the outfits I spotted at the local shop round the corner from me look brilliant.... two lovely party dresses worn for EID and their flared skirts and under petticoats they loved for dancing.  Got lovely tops too and the cute apron is a real winner with Leen, she loves helping mama with kitchen chores now wearing this.

It has been useful me visiting Belgium. Though I read Dutch my speaking is not so good.. ik spreek niet zo goed. But the Belgium locals are brilliant as they also speak English so this has been helpful to make contacts for Boshra with the locals.
1. We spoke with a lovely secretary for the Music school, Valerie and we found out that Leen can enrol for Dancing school to start in September. Valerie was lovely & told us her daughter dances too. So they can become friends. We had just missed a concert the weekend of my visit!! oh would have been wonderful to have taken the girls to watch. Little Tutus and ballets slippers all across the stage :-)
2. We met with Beatrix, a secretary for the Art School and Boshra can enrol to start in September.
We found out that Boshra needs to register for a refugee arts card so she can get the courses at a reduced rate. Love this... as the locals are really trying to help and give the refugees chances to rebuild their lives and settle into the community.  They understand and feel for all that they have been through in the war. The art is therapeutic too - I shared and insight post on my cup of tea share and care blog on the effects I observed in Boshra in this visit with an isolated incident at a building site. Sudden loud noises reawaken memories and fears of airstrikes. Befriending refugees you gain insights like this and news reports of family members still in hot spots. Refugee week starts on the 17th June and you can learn more and how to help rebuild lives.  My project Family Link Up is my personal project which enriches my life and is my life. We have fun too... That was the case on the last night of my trip to Belgium, which was EID too. We had good laugh together round at a friends house. Boshra is making lot of friends through the Dutch course and linked up with family from her home city in Syria. This is amazing and the daughter goes to the same school as Leen! She studies music and is learning to play the guitar. So we had music for the evening and fun dressing up too. Leen looks cute in her Syrian dress and was in fits of giggles at the Hawaiian outfit.  Love Family Link Up..

Friends together Learning sharing.

The painting is fun and magic - you only need water brush and colours appear. I remember this as a child and my kids and grand kids enjoying the magic.
Out for walk together and shopping.
Back home dancing. We have been dancing to romeo & juliet ballet march of the knights. Leen loves this we have been watching it on YouTube.
The jig saw is a winner we love doing this. So much vocabulary to be gleaned from this too!

Love the bag from a Danish shop in town. The flying tiger. Such fun and colourful ideas. This project is my life. Scroll down through the previous blogposts to see how you can  become part of the story with your help. I am a hand to hand link up helping to rebuild lives. Thank you
