Dance & Music

I keep thinking that maybe it would be good to see if Princess Leen can go to dance and music classes... She seems a natural and always has been.  Do you remember when she was in Athens on our first time meet up she was always dancing to music around her as an 18 months old then.

Last weeks trip to Belgium to see them reinforces my feeling that she needs to expand on her dance and music.

I keep hearing her humming the classical music that the teacher had played last Tuesday at the end of class. She really had got the melody as all the way home while we walked she was humming the tune perfectly. She seems to have natural talent for melody and movement to the beat of music. So I am discussing with Boshra about us pursuing this.  It will do her good I am sure to help her muscles and growth and to follow her creative and expressive trait she seems to have.

Woman to woman midwife time

Boshra's sister is due her baby in Germany and been anxious about coping with her labour.  So Boshra, who labours well and me the retired midwife have been having a woman to woman time to help support her over facebook.  But we are both wishing we could travel to be with her.  Boshra needs to get through all the bureaucracy of passport application and acceptance... I am thinking maybe I can get over but more likely after the birth.  Thank goodness for facebook and skype for us to connect one another.
But as when Boshra was in the Eleonas camp about to birth Celine 2 years ago and with an international look at maternity care for refugees in camps and host country communities... I am renewing my idea to put forward to the Royal College of Midwives that it would be a good project to train Syrian refugee women in midwifery to support one another and give a career structure to rebuild their lives.  Rebuilding lives by ensuring new life safely delivered in the world.

Family Link Up has many dimensions to it and the ability to develop further with teams of people to help befriend refugee families and help rebuild lives.

This project  and my family are my life.  They are amazing people with so many skills to offer the host countries.  They are keen to learn the host country language and integrate to be able to repay the countries with future success and contribute to the countries economy.
For those that are expecting soon and we also think of Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex active birthing is a way of working with the power of your contractions. Contractions are like waves in the sea that build up and then crash against the sea shore.  The wave lasts less than an minute so the peak of intensity is only seconds...the resting phase in between an oasis of calm. With good positioning you can help the babe on board negotiate the birth canal and help them to get into the best position for birthing. You have to learn to be a surfer riding that wave by keeping relaxed and focused -  as yes there is cramp like pain and bony aches that crescendo in the peak of the wave to experience - but this is positive pain with progress to help you birth. Your body is an amazing design to cope with this miraculous role of womanhood. The arrival of the baby is a wonderful feeling and your first sight and hold of that baby stays with you forever & makes all worthwhile. So your journey into motherhood begins with a child that will enrich your life...

Some kind midwife or doulla or partner can give a soothing massage to help you through your waves of power ... or simply hold your hand or hold you fully.... I remember one mother that wanted me to hug her in a standing position and we both rocked through the surges of power of the contractions...and I could feel the power as her bump pressed against my belly in the process.... I also remember another mother actually (in my training) that used the imagery of the sea and waves, she was a keen swimmer so was lost in her visualisation of swimming in the sea and riding the waves.  I remember the ward round and the registrar saying "oh the epidural is working!" to which I replied "she has not got an epidural she is using visualisation and if you break her concentration she will not cope as well."  So he quietly scuttled out of the room and we had a lovely delivery.  Here is a good link for you to read more on active birthing Active birthing

Be Part of the Story

So grateful for this project in my life and is my life.... was good to visit Boshra, Leen and Celine...They are learning so much too on their life rebuild.  On Sunday we got caught in a cloud burst and I was fascinated.... I could hear as I thought Leen saying "Rain Rain go away come back another day!" in English but then realised it was our 2 yrs old Celine in her pushchair....They are truly absorbing all the languages spoken around them... it is brilliant love it! It was funny to when the waiter in the coffee shop was asking me something and I could not understand nor Boshra so we asked Leen what is he saying.. lol the Waiter was laughing and said she is learning quicker than you ... I answered yes she is our Professor of Linguistics....

Thank you for making it possible

Quick post to say thank you to all those that helped me have a great birthday by enabling me to visit Leen and Celine in Belgium.
🎂💃Never did I think on my 65th birthday that I would have a robot flirting with me hhh on my wait to board the @EurostarUK Both the robot & the staff were lovely Thanks all for my first trip ever on @Eurostar you helped me see my lovely family.

Well impressed with the integration to Belgium course for migrants and refugees.... the authors of this course have a good recipe for success..... When I was waiting at Leen's School could hear mothers from Vietnam, Nepal, Pakistan, Syria and many countries of the world ... speaking good fluent Dutch........ So proud of Boshra too with all her hard work to learn....and Leen speaks heel goed too. I will post more on this soon...
Boshra was able to get some more art materials.  In this time together had some girlie time too... Girls loved having their nails done and we had good clothes shopping session for Boshra to help her look good for college.

Leen is a good learner and we had some good constructive time together sharing and learning with her flicking in and out of Arabic, Dutch, English and French.....We have been learning about time, doing some writing and art work I was able to take her to school and pick her up.  The teacher was telling me what a good girl she is in class and so helpful too,
Me being a big kid in the school playground... and was so much fun.... the first morning at school I was surrounded by children to see who I was.

Fun time

The girls had a fun treat a the local market fair.... the film footage is so funny as Leen looks so good at her "driving" and Celine is waving as if really going off on a trip... lol bless them.... and then the play in the market place looks fun... I can see what Celine is doing chasing her sisters shadow on the ground..... But it also makes me remember my trip to Athens when Leen was in Eleonas and Boshra and I took her into the city and she was chasing pigeons... that was such a cute and fun day too..
ღ¸╭•⊰
I am planning to visit the family members in Belgium for my birthday to link up Leens school with the local one here. Leen is doing well with her Dutch learning and so is Boshra... All are trying hard to keep all the languages rich and bountiful for any future work opportunities.  Boshra is keen to develop her art skills and has a huge pull towards glass painting and artwork.
We need funds for educational materials for both the children in Belgium and in Turkey.  We need more art materials for Boshra in Belgium.  She still needs beds for the girls in the apartment too. Funds to purchase from local traders in the host countries is so important - to respect their livelihoods.  But I also need funds to send parcels to them all.
Can we do this together dear helpers? let me know of ideas such as coffee mornings and sponsored runs or cycles... anything that can help this project - thank you!

Happy Birthday Celine

Just had a lovely skype call with Boshra and the girls... Been singing "Happy Birthday" together for Celine and counting 1 - 2 for you.

We had giggles blowing kisses to one another..

The girls then astonished me by both of them yes both of them counting to 10 in Arabic; French; English and Dutch.... Leen is speaking Dutch clearly now... and it must be a case of little sister learning from big sister as Celine is becoming a polyglot too... We must keep the language learning developing as they grow as it is so important for them in rebuilding their lives....

I have finished more of the Arran waistcoats in various sizes for my family link up. I enjoy this pattern so will got more Arran wool colours to knit up to send to both Turkey and Belgium.  They are lightweight but so warm with a pure wool mix.

Plus I have been picking up more educational books...
