Skype check on welfare

I have been skyping the family in Turkey to check on their welfare in the Artic cold blast we are all getting. Today they managed to get some bundles of wood for the burner... So warm today... and Ahmed alert and having some feed..... so feel happier - but they do need more funds as the wood burner eats up the supplies..... and there is no tiling like I would find when I was in the field in Romania some years ago..... their heaters would stay warm for hours.... so frustrating I really would like to go and make a field assessment of needs and how to help better.  One of the women folk had to go to the hospital today as she had a wood splinter spit in her eye from the fire.... So much to assess on welfare and health & safety... and to help rebuild lives..... Ahmed was enjoying the teddy fun on the skype.... bless him... bless all the kids that are safe and all children in the world should have this right to be safe.

Looking out for snow

Celine excited looking out for snow in Belgium.... So so ready for visiting but clearly this cold spell makes it awkward to travel.... Please can you help me fund raise to get out to Belgium and shop and bake and play with Celine and Leen... and have time with Boshra their mum.....it will be good to get Boshra sorted with some art materials as I have been discussing in past posts and to get her some clothes too....  I am glad I got that dress Celine is wearing in these photos today as it is fleece lined so will be warm for her....

Been practising my Arabic script and vocab building in not only Arabic but in Dutch German French and Turkish... all the languages are good for me to get agile with. Do not forget we also need some funds for something as basic as wood for Dante and the families in Turkey.  Been updating with him today and they are still struggling so much in the cold weather.  We have some interesting projects too... One is to help one of the women to develop in women's journalism.   So much can be done between us all... 

Today was so proud as saw a news item on Kate, Duchess of Cambridge visiting the Royal College of Obs & Gynae and then on to St Thomas's.  Kate was filmed spotting her midwife who helped with the birth of Princess Charlotte..Prof Jacqui Dunkley Bent, a great midwife and a great past manager of mine... she was the Director of Midwifery at St Thomas's Birth centre when I was in practice there.  It was lovely to see Kate and Jacqui spontaneously hug one another......

this is how close we get as midwives...... there is a bond forever with mothers.  I remember my midwives when I had my daughters.   Dear me supporters wish I was still able to practice to help earn for this project.  I know I could not race around on those busy 12 hours shifts like I used to though...So dear followers and readers I am reliant on fund raising, grants and sponsors to help me build the Family Link Up project to full potential and rebuild lives.

URGENT APPEAL FOR FUEL COLD BLAST IN TURKEY

URGENT URGENT COLD BLAST NEED HELP REPEATED CALL FOR HELP - Skype called my refugee families in Turkey today and they are all sat around with coats and hats on IN THE HOUSE... NO WOOD FOR THE BURNER..... sadly my call for help with funding for fuel as not yielded a response ... CAN YOU HELP URGENTLY we can get funds quickly to them to get stocked up with wood for the burner we have ELDERLY LADY IN THE GROUP (Dante's Mother) AND SMALL CHILD AHMED.

The Artic blast is being felt in Turkey too as well as here in the UK..... 
Please can you help me get some funds to them for wood and some good food and more clothing please.

So much happened in her life and only three years old... New update on the gofundme

My dear supporters and followers I am so wishing to visit Boshra, Leen and Celine in their new place in Belgium... It would be wonderful to be there for Celine's first birthday.....especially as i was able to see her has a newborn last year in Eleonas Camp Athens....

I would like to do some shopping with the family... Get some baking equipment and ingredients for us to bake together in the kitchen they now have... and cook together too.. 

We can get some clothes and some educational materials for the girls to help with more language learning. And Boshra.... I would like to get some art materials so she can follow her desire to paint and to create some interesting artwork.... She loves painting on canvas and also loves glass painting... all could help her heal from the traumas she has been through and be a means to earn too...

I am in dialogue with one of my favourite artists and we are thinking to make a special fundraising page for her..... so more on this later when I have some photos to share.... 

So much to do in this project in all the areas where the family are...... 

Some good news on me too ... I have now passed a TEFL course I have been doing online over the last 6 months so hope to find some teaching posts too...

Memories of sharing

 Today been remembering all the joy of sharing clothes in the Eleonas Camp Athens in 2016.  Today was looking out at my front door as the sun was shining and giving an hint of spring coming.  I was looking at the bar along the path and remembering the wonderful energy and activity of washing, ironing and airing donated clothes to take to the camp. Then saw on facebook that the Salvation army in Athens having mothers clothes swap days...Clothes Swap  So been gathering some of the photos of the time Boshra and Princess Leen helped to distribute the clothes to the mothers in the camp.  My little princess Leen is so altruistic as indeed all my family link up are.  They always ensure that the refugee community around them are catered for too.  There is great joy and coming together in sharing some good fortune that came their way.  I loved this day with the womenfolk and the babies sharing time together and the appreciation and love that they felt from the Mother that donated these clothes. Sharing practical things but most of all sharing love - Mother Power....  

I always love the cute look of Leen in this pink dress and sun hat...(see below) ....that day in Athens was so much fun with her looking so pretty and cute. This dress is now being worn by her sister Celine as she fits it now.  This is the fun thing about the refugee family the donation of clothes be they second hand or new always get good wear out and are passed down to other brothers and sisters and to other members of the community.  I am so ready to see Boshra and the girls now they are settling in Belgium... we have just been facebook chatting and she is asking she hopes I can come for Celine's first birthday... she is would like a joint party a catch up one of Leen's 3rd birthday in January that I could not get too... and for Celine.... and just to celebrate being together again.  I am so desperate to have some time out of the UK and go and see what facilities are available for them in Belgium and how I can help the locals help all the refugees.  It will make a good report for you all my readers.

Needing funds for New Clothes

I enjoyed myself yesterday evening having a look round our local shopping complex in Hayes.  But it is so frustrating seeing lovely clothes for Princess Leen and Princess Celine plus our little man Ahmed and having no funds to purchase for them. The Mothercare range is very attractive with lots of lovely clothes and themes.  There is an emphasis on boating for some of the girls dresses and the boys dungarees..... and I love the splash of yellow too in the spring collection.  It was good to have a talk with the local manageress and she was interested in all I am doing.  I was saying how I had emailed the head office some weeks ago to see if the girls could model for their catalogue.  I am still awaiting a reply and from other clothes companies I have approached.  It would be a good way to keep the spotlight on the need for families to rebuild their lives after fleeing for their lives.   Here is the link to Mothercare chance you have spotted something you would like to buy for your children or if you would like to get for the Family Link Up and send to me.  If you do order would you let them know it was from this blog and Family Link Up that you first saw the goods you liked....you never know this may help me get some sponsorship or some help with funding...

Family dental care so cute

Just been sent some photos of Ahmed today getting to grips with a toothbrush.... he is teething .. so cute - he is getting his and I am losing mine with old age..lol  Was fun with Princess Leen when we were in Eleonas camp teaching tooth brushing. Dante is feeling a little brighter today it was a shock in the week to learn his cousin had perished in the war. Then we had some sad news from Asma in Germany the baby she was expecting was ectopic so she has lost the baby.  Thank goodness to the kindness of the German doctors...But it would be good to visit her...I am going to get a German friend to visit in the meantime. I am feeling so tied down without any funds at the moment. Time is moving so fast towards Celine's first birthday too...... we have just been on skype now in Belgium. Sometimes feels like I am a global community midwife :-) with this patch to cover Turkey, Germany and Belgium. Amazing Family Link Up.  Today was nice I was in the library and some local students came to look at the blog and were keen to see how to help me..  I do get people interested but we need to make a committed group with regular updates and regular funds coming in .... then we can expand on all the ideas and projects, plus get more families befriended.  I need to plan an event where I can speak about the project. Also happy to come along and speak to any groups too... There is so much to share.

Sisters update today...

Adorable photos come in today from Boshra.... Princess Celine not yet one year old ... looking so sweet as ballet dancer in her frills and lace... She is an amazing determined little big lady...... cannot wait to see her again... So hope I can get some funding to travel to Belgium for her first birthday........and not only can I visit them but we can travel to Brussels to see a centre there that helps refugees.  I would like to make an assessment of all that is in place and help Boshra connect with she can to help settlement.  Would like to get some art materials for Boshra to get back into her artwork... and we need more educational material to help with languages and general schooling. 

Princess Leen photos came to me too... and I love this one of her looking out of the window in the apartment they live in now. Thank you so much Belgium for your help. It means so much to see this from the early days of Leen as a baby learning to stand supporting herself with the centre pole of the UNHCR tent she lived in, in Turkey.  This three year old has been through so much in her life and always smiling.  A noor a light and cannot wait to visit... She looks so grown up now. Princess of smiles

Suspended - Piccadilly

I attended a really good meeting this evening in St James's Church in Piccadilly. It was a very moving evening.  Groups came together, all religions came together and the Westminster council came together, kind hearts came together to discuss welcoming Syrian refugees to Westminster.....An evening of sharing hearts and compassion.  The church is holding an exhibition of a contemplative artwork called Suspended - it is made up of hundreds of items of clothing that have been discarded by refugees upon their arrival on the island of Lesbos.

The title Suspended is to denote the feeling refugees have in being suspended in life having had to feel familiarity of motherland that is now unrecognisable with the ravages of war and having to start a new life in new lands.  The vicar opened the evening with a direction to focus on a piece of clothing to think of the person that wore this.  I lit candle before the start of the meeting with a pray for my Family Link Up and it was good to be able to share my experience.

I can feel that Dante is going through a low ebb of mood and feeling like suspended in time and place... Even though we have made a lot of progress and gained some good connections... He opened up his emotions in a chat tonight and then gave me these words. 

We live in illusions and dreams only success can you dream of in a deplorable reality.

You see the war goes on and the losses go on there seems no end to the pain...it is witnessed each day in reports.  The deplorable reality of that pain goes on until we the world can get it to stop. Refugees carry the pain no matter where they go... So there is much support to be given to all that witness and bear this pain.  Good tonight how people were recognising this and wanting to prepare to receive refugees with full understanding of the love and care they need.  

Language of Love

Had a lovely voice message sent from Boshra in Belgium of her and Princess Leen learning together.  Boshra teaching colours to Leen and Leen able to interchange between Arabic and English... I wish I could download this recording from the messenger to implant in the blog for you to listen too... It is adorable.... and love the way Leen can roll her "Rs" saying Red.... I need Leen and Boshra to teach me....... Today been good as I have had an email from NaTakallam that they are interested in Dante to teach Arabic online.... NaTakallam So they are linked with him now and I have sent a CV file we compiled together.. I work hard linking up the family to opportunity and chances to rebuild their lives.  I learn so much too... Would be good to get some more educational materials to them all to help the family learn and to help them teach..
